Cowboys fans didn't receive too much good news this offseason. Most updates related to their team involved a departing key starter or Jerry Jones defending his inaction in the media. That is why Dallas hopefuls rejoiced earlier in the week when they heard the team was meeting with talented wide receiver Zay Jones.

There was hope among the fanbase that the big role the Cowboys could offer Jones, combined with the ability to contend for a Super Bowl would be enough to lure the veteran pass-catcher to Dallas. Instead, Ian Rapoport reports that the former Jaguar is headed to Arizona to become a target for Kyler Murray.

Free Agent WR Zay Jones Chooses Cardinals Over the Cowboys

Zay Jones becomes the latest free agent to spurn the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. As of now, the Cowboys have only made two free-agent signings that are projected to start: linebacker Eric Kendricks and running back Ezekiel Elliott.

At this point in the offseason, the Cowboys can't afford to miss out on talented players like Zay Jones. The options still available on the market are very limited and Dallas still has holes to fill.

Wide receiver is the biggest one to fill. CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks will be the primary options to begin the season, but the depth behind them is questionable. The Cowboys hope for a significant step forward from Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks, but that is not a given.

There are still players like Michael Thomas, Hunter Renfrow, and Mecole Hardman on the market. The Cowboys can somewhat salvage their disastrous offseason by signing one of these receivers, but the time is running out on Jerry Jones & Co.

The offense doesn't look as dangerous on paper as it did last season and that will certainly make breaking the Super Bowl drought for the Cowboys much more difficult.
