Cowboys Suddenly Have Perfect Trade Opportunity After Micah Parsons Injury
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys were able to come away with the win at MetLife Stadium on Thursday Night Football as they ground out a hard-fought victory over the Giants. During the win, however, they suffered a few concerning injuries to key starters.
DeMarcus Lawrence exited the game with a foot injury and Micah Parsons suffered an ankle sprain late in the fourth quarter and was carted off the field.
Fortunately, the Cowboys have nine days before their Week 5 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, giving Parsons and Lawrence time to rest and heal. We should get more of an idea of their statuses after MRIs but if either of them misses any time, the Cowboys should address their pass rush and add more talent.
One name that they should seriously consider is All-Pro defensive end Haason Reddick. The veteran Pro Bowler was traded to the Jets in the offseason but he has yet to make his season debut as he awaits a contract extension. He requested a trade before the season and is not budging, even if it means that he is accruing fines for not suiting up for his new team.
At this point, the Jets are likely desperate to move on from Reddick and get whatever they can get for him. That is almost certainly going to be less than the conditional third-round pick that they sent to the Eagles.
Reddick will require a contract extension after the acquisition. If the sides can agree on a number that works for both sides, Reddick is the exact type of player who could get the Cowboys' defense to the next level. He would fill the hole created by Parsons' absence perfectly while fitting seamlessly opposite him once he returns from injury.
The Cowboys' defense has been disappointing under Mike Zimmer to start the season. The pass rush and overall intensity have been lacking, giving quarterbacks too much time and space. Adding another elite defender like Reddick could significantly alleviate those concerns.
