Cowboys Surging in Odds to Sign Derrick Henry
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys have a stacked roster, loaded with talent up and down most positions. It's difficult to argue that they have any pressing needs in the offseason. One area that could use some strengthening, however, is the running back rotation. With Tony Pollard underwhelming in his lead role last season and potentially departing in free agency, the Cowboys would benefit from an elite rusher to take their offense to the next level.
Fortunately for them, there are plenty of high-level running backs on the open market. One of the best rushers of the last decade, Derrick Henry is certainly among them.
Oddsmakers believe that the Cowboys' chances of signing Henry are surging.
Dallas Cowboys Surging in Odds to Sign Star RB Derrick Henry
On DraftKings Sportsbook, the Dallas Cowboys are right behind the Baltimore Ravens in terms of odds (+220) of signing Henry in free agency. These odds are a massive shift from where the market for All-Pro rusher was just a few weeks ago.
Previously, the Cowboys' odds of landing Henry were +550, behind the Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles. This surge clearly highlights Dallas' interest in the former Heisman Trophy winner.
Even though Henry has a lot of mileage on his body, being a workhorse RB1 for the Tennessee Titans for the last eight seasons, he is still surprisingly effective. He just wrapped up his age-29 season, playing in every game and registering 1,167 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in the 2023 campaign.
It's been a long time since the Cowboys haven't had a clear workhorse RB1, and unless Jerry Jones has a sudden change of heart in how he likes to construct his rosters, we can expect him to be aggressive in his pursuit of a guy link Henry.
