Cowboys fans have been keeping a close eye on Dak Prescott and his ankles throughout the offseason. While he is negotiating a new contract with Jerry Jones & Co., the star quarterback has been dealing with some ankle issues.

Earlier in the summer, Prescott was photographed while on vacation in Mexico wearing a walking boot. Since training camp started, he was held out of a couple of practices out of precaution. Last Friday, he sat out because of right ankle soreness.

Because of the fact that this is the same ankle Prescott dislocated back in 2020, Cowboys fans are nervous about what it means about their perennial MVP candidate. However, Prescott took the stage after Thursday's practice to alleviate any concerns about his injury status. Denying that there is any "ankle-gate", the 31-year-old gunslinger said that there are no residual issues about his ankle.

Cowboys News: Dak Prescott Rejects Any Ankle Concerns

Prescott didn't play in the preseason game against the LA Rams. Dallas plays the Raiders on Saturday and the Chargers a week from that. Considering that Prescott never suited up for a preseason game under Mike McCarthy, it's hard to imagine him playing in either of those matchups.

So, Cowboys fans will have to wait until the regular-season opener against the Browns to see if there is anything to be concerned about their star quarterback.

Perhaps as important as his ankle, however, is the contract situation. Even though the sides are reportedly talking about the extension, there hasn't been much progress on that front. The Cowboys will have to make Prescott one of, if not the highest-paid players in the league to get a deal done. The uncertainty will hang over the head of the team all season if it doesn't get done soon, hurting the Cowboys' chances of making the Super Bowl.

As of now, the Cowboys are among the favorites to win the NFC and make the Super Bowl at +800 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
