Jerry Jones Causing Even More Distractions for Cowboys at Practice
By Cem Yolbulan
Sitting at an underwhelming 2-2 to start the season, the Dallas Cowboys have a tough slate of games coming up against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions before their bye week. They have a ton of weaknesses to address and problems to fix. While they were attempting to do so on Wednesday, they had a surprise visitor who briefly paused the practice.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones decided the middle of the practice was a good time to land his helicopter on the football field. As Patrik Walker points out, that is not a sight you see too often.
NFL News: Jerry Jones Helicopters Into Cowboys Practice
Jones has been running the Cowboys like a family business instead of a professional sports team. His lack of respect for the members of the organization is obvious in selfish stunts like this. If Jones wanted to talk to Dak Prescott or the coaching staff, could he have not done so before or after the practice?
In the most generous interpretation for Jones, this is a distraction for the players. Yet, one could argue that it creates a hostile work environment. What employee wants to see their boss helicopter into the middle of their workplace while they are trying to do their jobs?
These players are at the whim of Jerry Jones. They can be cut on any given day, jeopardizing their livelihoods. A lot of them are waiting for a contract extension.
While that is happening, the team owner arrives with complete disregard for the situation. It is certainly in poor taste and one has to think that plenty of players believe this.
