Mike McCarthy Lets Cowboys Fans Down With New Comments in Week 5
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys received the shocking news on Wednesday that Brandin Cooks would miss Sunday's game against the Steelers with a knee infection and there is a possibility that he could miss an extended period of time. Already having an underwhelming start to the season on the offensive side of the ball, the Cowboys simply can't afford the absence of one of their starting offensive weapons.
The Cowboys are already lacking in offensive depth. They lost Tony Pollard and Michael Gallup in the offseason and didn't replace them properly. With Cooks' injury, they will be further depleted.
This naturally created speculation among Cowboys fans about a potential addition to the rotation. Davante Adams' name has been thrown around with Dianna Russini reporting that the Cowboys already reached out to the Raiders about trading for the disgruntled star.
However, head coach Mike McCarty nipped these rumors in the bud on Wednesday.
Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy Indicates No WR Move Incoming
Cowboys insider Calvin Watkins reported McCarthy's latest remarks, praising his current crop of wide receivers. He specifically mentioned Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, and KaVontae Turpin.
Turpin will likely replace Cooks in the starting lineup. The rotation is very thin after that. Brooks is the only other receiver on the roster who has had a role this season, putting up three catches for 52 yards so far.
The need for another playmaker is obvious. The Cowboys need more elite talent on the offensive end of the field. Whether it's Adams or another receiver on the trade block, a move for more quality in the receiver room is a must if the Cowboys want to salvage this season.
