Jerry Jones Makes First Comments on Micah Parsons & DeMarcus Lawrence Injuries
By Cem Yolbulan
The Dallas Cowboys eked out a narrow win over the New York Giants on Thursday night. Even though winning over division rivals is always nice, Cowboys fans woke up with serious concern over their star defenders they lost to injury during the game.
DeMarcus Lawrence left the game with a foot injury and never returned. Micah Parsons was carted off the field after he suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys defense which already looked questionable against Daniel Jones and the Giants attack, lost two of its premium defensive ends.
It is obviously hard to know their statuses without additional testing and MRI but Jerry Jones provided the latest update on his appearance on 105.3 The Fan. He said that both defenders are feeling good and the injuries don't seem very "significant".
NFL News: Jerry Jones Optimistic About Injuries to Micah Parsons & DeMarcus Lawrence
Jones added that if the injuries were serious, the medical team would usually be able to see it immediately and voice their concerns. That was not the case on Thursday night, creating a sense of optimism in the organization.
"I don’t know when I’ve seen a serious injury that the doctors didn’t say that’s a serious injury before the X-ray."
- Cowboys owner Jerry Jones
The Cowboys have nine days before their Week 5 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This should give both players some extra time to rest and heal.
The defense under Mike Zimmer has faced a ton of scrutiny through the first four games. The tackling hasn't been good, the run defense has been poor, and the QB pressure has been worse than it has been in recent years. Micah Parsons isn't his usual wrecking ball self, raising concern among Cowboys fans about this team's Super Bowl viability. Let's hope that both Lawrence and Parsons will put the slow start and the injuries behind them and get this defense to the level everyone was hoping for at the start of the season.
