The Dallas Cowboys are in Oxnard, California as they prepare for the 2024 season. Training camp has been underway for two weeks but the Cowboys have been without their star receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Things took a bad turn when owner Jerry Jones said he wasn't in a rush to pay Lamb. Shortly after, Lamb responded on X with a tweet saying, "lol".

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the team right now but an intriguing veteran playmaker just became available and could provide insurance for Lamb.

NFL News: New England Released Juju Smith-Schuster

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the New England Patriots decided to release wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster.

He joined New England last spring but failed to succeed over there. Last season, he only recorded 29 catches for 260 yards and one score. The 27-year-old hinted a knee injury slowing him down last fall and is believed to be fully healthy now.

Smith-Schuster is on New England's books for $7 million this season so the next team that signs the former USC product will likely get him for the minimum. That would be perfect for the Cowboys as they are known for being a bit frugal.

Especially with massive extensions for Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott in the back of their minds, adding someone like Smith-Schuster may be an enticing option.

There is no timetable for when Lamb will receive an extension and rejoin the team. The Cowboys need to hit the ground rolling in 2024 so adding a veteran pass catcher like Smith-Schuster may be a smart choice.

You wouldn't need him to become a No. 1 or No. 2 option but he could just give them another playmaker who has produced at the NFL level.

In seven NFL seasons, Smith-Schuster had notched 430 receptions (620 targets) for 5,048 receiving yards, and 30 touchdowns.

He may be worth kicking the tires on for Dallas. I mean what else do they have to lose?
