We are a month away from the NFL trade deadline. This means that the rumor mill has already started working overtime. Some teams that had underwhelming starts to the season will look to upgrade their roster, while other teams that have fallen out of contention will part ways with their valuable trade assets.

The latest addition to the trade block already has teams working the phones. Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders requested a trade on Tuesday and teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, are reportedly monitoring the situation.

The latest injury to Brandin Cooks that will keep him sidelined for the near future only exacerbates the Cowboys' need for an elite wide receiver.

Even though Cowboys fans are clamoring for an Adams trade, there has been no indication from the organization that they have a sense of urgency to get a deal done. In fact, in his first remarks about the situation, Mike McCarthy gently shut down the rumors.

According to Cowboys insider Calvin Watkins, the head coach said he doesn't know much about the situation and believes in the current crop of receivers he has on the roster.

Cowboys News: HC Mike McCarthy Gently Shuts Down Davante Adams Rumors

This could obviously be gamesmanship from McCarthy. The Cowboys' top brass may be trying to gain leverage by playing hardball and appearing uninterested.

At the same time, the Cowboys can't afford to waste any more time. They are 2-2 and play the Steelers, Lions, and the 49ers next. If Cooks isn't ready to return, things could get ugly for the Cowboys' offense.
