Scary Brandin Cooks Health News Revealed as Cowboys Begin Week 5 Prep

The Dallas Cowboys' struggles in the running game have been well-documented this season. An under-the-radar part of the Cowboys' underwhelming start to the season has been the wide receiver rotation.
Lacking in depth and elite talent outside of CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys haven't been able to have the same dynamism and playmaking that they displayed in recent years. As a result, Dallas ranks middle-of-the-pack offensively both in terms of yards and points.
On Wednesday, things took an even bleaker turn with a shocking injury update. Cowboys insider Todd Archer reported that Brandin Cooks will be out in Week 5 against the Steelers and could potentially miss more games. The 31-year-old receiver reportedly developed an infection in his knee after a procedure following the Giants game.
Cowboys News: WR Brandin Cooks Out in Week 5 With Unexpected Injury
Even though Cooks had a slow start to the season, catching nine passes on 19 targets for 91 yards and only one touchdown, this is a major blow for the Cowboys.
Cooks is the most experienced receiver on the team and played a huge part last year as the WR2, finishing with 81 catches and eight touchdowns. He started this season as the WR2 as well but has been outplayed by Jalen Tolbert so far.
The mysterious and unexpected nature of this injury is concerning. How well the knee is going to respond to the infection will determine how quickly Cooks can return to the field. KaVontae Turpin will likely take over as the starter but the Cowboys may need to make an addition to the rotation if Cooks can't return by the bye on Week 7.
