The Dallas Cowboys have undergone several changes since their NFL offseason began in January. First-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer has injected some much-needed optimism into the Cowboys' outlook, and the team has since supported their new bench boss by bolstering his roster with a handful of veteran free agents.
As solid as the Cowboys' offseason has been so far, it hasn't been without a hiccup or two. Dallas's offensive line lost one of its most important pieces when future Hall-of-Fame guard Zack Martin announced his NFL retirement following 11 memorable seasons in the Lone Star State.
Replacing someone of Martin's caliber isn't easy, especially when looking at his long accolade list. Having said that, the Cowboys can at least make their offensive guard depth more palatable by signing a veteran blocker who was just released.
Cowboys Must Sign OG Tremayne Anchrum Jr. After Texans Release
Adding as much O-line depth is never a bad thing, especially with how injuries can emerge at any time once offseason team activities and training camp begin. That's why the Cowboys should consider signing veteran OG Tremayne Anchrum Jr., who was just released by the Houston Texans on Monday, according to local reporter Jonathan M. Alexander.

Anchrum, 26, is a former Clemson Tiger who gained a ton of experience by winning two CFP National Championships with the program. That experience played a role in the Powder Springs, GA native being drafted 250th overall by the Los Angeles Rams in 2020.
During his four-year L.A. run, Anchrum ended up playing 234 snaps (133 special teams, 101 offensive) in 31 games (1 start). While that is a small sample size, it's worth noting that he provided Rams with solid protection, surrendering only two pressures with one penalty taken across 62 passing downs.
The Texans didn't re-sign Anchrum when his rookie contract expired, though, allowing him to join the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints for practice squad stints. He was eventually released by the Saints right before the 2024 NFL season began, only to join the Texans less than three months later.
Even though it's been over a year since he last played, the Cowboys have nothing to lose by taking a flyer on Anchrum. He's an experienced depth blocker who's won two national titles and a Super Bowl, making him a low-risk option who could provide the OL room with some much-needed leadership in Martin's absence.
If he works out and provides quarterback Dak Prescott with adequate protection, that's great. If not, the Cowboys won't lose sleep over a depth piece who likely won't command more than a low-cost "prove yourself" contract.
Look for the Cowboys to potentially target free-agent OLs like Anchrum in the fallout of the 2025 NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday in Green Bay, WI.
