The Dallas Mavericks continue to make moves to build out their roster for next season. The rookie additions of Sergio de Larrea and Morez Johnson Jr., followed by the Santi Aldama trade, have the Mavs' depth chart looking different from what it did at the end of last season. Yet, new team president Masai Ujiri is not done as he is preparing to add another international player to the roster.
As part of the Aldama trade with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Mavs also acquired the rights to EuroLeague star Tarik Biberovic. While many were wondering whether Dallas would pay the $2 million buyout fee to his club, Fenerbahce Beko of TĂ¼rkiye, the latest reports suggest that the 25-year-old sharpshooter is headed to the Mavericks.
Confirming NBA insider Marc Stein's reporting, Eurohoops' Bugra Uzar, along with other Turkish journalists, reported the deal between the Mavs and Biberovic on Monday.
The details of the contract have yet to be announced, but it looks like the Bosnia-born Turkish star is headed to Dallas.
Tarik Biberovic is the exact international prospect the Mavs needed
Transitioning to the NBA can be challenging for many international players. How quickly Biberovic will adapt to the game here remains to be seen, but he certainly has the skill set to make an immediate impact.
Biberovic is the type of player the Mavs have been looking for as they try to add shooting around Cooper Flagg and their talented frontcourt. Biberovic has been one of the best shooters in Europe for several years.
The six-foot-seven sharpshooter who will likely play small forward in the NBA is a career 42.3% shooter from downtown. Over the last three EuroLeague seasons, since he became a full-time rotation player for the powerhouse Fenerbahce, Biberovic hit 43.4% from downtown on 4.4 attempts per game. He was a big part of the team that won the EuroLeague in 2025 and the Turkish Super League for three straight seasons.
This is the type of elite three-point shooting the Mavs lack outside Klay Thompson, which suggests that Biberovic can play a role right away. Given that he is leaving a star role on one of the best teams in Europe for this opportunity, he should at least get a chance.
There are concerns about Biberovic's athleticism. He is not the quickest or the most explosive wing. Going up against the fastest perimeter players, his defense could be an issue. He will also struggle to create his own shot. If he can hit enough catch-and-shoot threes and jumpers coming off screens, however, the rest of the stuff won't matter. The fact that he has good positional size and strength suggests that he may not be hopeless defensively.
This is a worthy flyer for the Mavs. Where they are as a franchise allows them to take these gambles. If it hits, they could have a long-term contributor on a team-friendly deal, making this a no-brainer acquisition for next season.
