Trey Lance Makes Rare Comments Amid Lack of Cowboys Playing Time
The Dallas Cowboys' disaster of a season has continued on in Dak Prescott's absence, as the team has dropped both contests without its preferred starting quarterback. Instead, backup Cooper Rush has toiled away in his second extended stint as QB1, with Dallas recording just 16 total points over the past two weeks.
Many have, once again, called for now-main backup Trey Lance to get some run, and even head coach Mike McCarthy has advocated for that as well. However, owner Jerry Jones seems determined to have Rush under center as long as Prescott is out.
Amid this unfortunate situation, Lance has provided some rare comments to the media.
Lance broke his silence in Week 12 with a few words to Athlon Sports' Mike Fisher. The former No. 3 pick provided some leadership during a time the Cowboys are without their QB, saying Dallas just needs to take things "week at a time" during their struggles. He went on to praise his teammates as well, stating "this team doesn't have any quit in it."
"Anytime you're struggling on paper I think we kind of take a look at ourselves each and every week, know what we can do to get better and continue to move on. This team doesn't have any quit in it ..."
- Lance to Athlon Sports
It's great to see Lance putting forth a positive attitude and even trying to support his teammates despite things not going as hoped for him. The young quarterback has made it known he'd like a real shot to help the Cowboys, but his pleas have fallen on deaf ears to this point.
However, Lance could get his chance soon. Jones has stated Rush is the best QB to help the team win, but he's done the opposite so far. And as soon as Dallas is eliminated from playoff contention, the primary focus immediately shifts away from winning, which opens up the door for the 'Boys to give Lance an audition over the final weeks of the campaign.
