The NFL world is buzzing at the Dallas Cowboys' latest move to sign Von Miller in hopes of winning a third Super Bowl. In the past, it wasn't like fans got too excited during key offseasons or trade deadlines, but now Jerry Jones has made a move that some fans would have never expected.
Signing Miller was one thing, but this is now the second move fans never thought about. It's getting a premier player when nobody thought it was possible.
Now the Cowboys have arguably the best defensive tackle and a future Hall of Fame pass rusher, along with a rookie stud safety with the ceiling to become an All-Pro player one day. The Cowboys had a chance to strike gold, and they absolutely did.
Jerry Jones isn't playing around anymore
We've seen Jones' stubbornness in signing big-time players, even recently. But now, it's clear that Jones' vision is to win - and now. Signing Quinnen Williams signaled that he really did care about stopping the run, one of Jones' many mantras, but he did something not many expected.
Reports came out that the Cowboys weren't as interested as Miller. The Super Bowl MVP had dropped multiple hints that he was interested, including posting a picture of Dak Prescott with a shirt that said Super Bowl champions.
It's fair for fans to think that Jones wasn't going to make a move regardless. He missed out on Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson. Now, Miller, in his upper 30s, may not have the same impact as he did 10 years ago, but his nine sacks from a year ago and playing 17 games mean everything.
There have been blockbuster signings before, like when Amari Cooper was traded before the deadline in 2018, but there's clearly some urgency with Jones here.
He's 83, and while he looks like he's in great shape to run the Cowboys organization, he's hungry to win a Super Bowl soon. He may not retire for at least another five years, but he also has the pieces to do something special now.
He's got one of the greatest offenses in the league, followed by a mid-tier defense that was considered one of the worst last season. There's clearly an improvement with Christian Parker's group, and the Miller signing only elevates them to new heights.
Jones isn't wasting any time. He's got his dream coaches, and he's clearly OK with taking a step back and watching this team operate the way it should.
