Mavericks: No All Stars No Problem for Dallas

Another year and no All Star will come out of the city of Dallas, but that should not cause concern for Mavericks fans.

It has been two years now since a Dallas Mavericks player was selected for the NBA All-Star game. While it does not seem that will change this year, the Mavericks still have  plenty to look forward during the All-Star festivities.

While other NBA teams will be anxious to find out which of their players make the NBA All-Star roster, the Dallas Mavericks will have their sights set on other key note events.

All Star Three-Point Contest

As of late, Dallas Mavericks PG/SG Seth Curry has expressed interested in par-taking in the NBA’s All-Star Three Point Contest. While Curry has yet to hear from the NBA about his participation, he has proclaimed a desire to take part in the event and maybe even make it a family affair.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Curry would enjoy the idea of taking part in the event, with his older brother Steph Curry being right beside him.

One reason this could happen is due to the fact that Seth Curry took part in the D-League’s three point contest back in 2015. During the event the younger Curry put 21 points in the first round of the event.

Another reason to add onto the hype is that older brother Steph Curry has taken part in the event for the past four seasons now. He won the event back in 2015.

So far this season, Seth Curry has a better three point percentage then older brother Steph Curry as Seth is currently shooting 40.3 percent, while Steph is shooting 39.9. (1/17/2017)

Rising Star Challenge

Another event the Dallas Mavericks could see their players take part in, is the Rising Skills Challenge or the Rookie vs. Sophomore game. In the event last year, Dallas Mavericks Dwight Powell took part as he was considered a sophomore for the game.

One Mavs players who could take part in the festivities is rookie Dorian Finney-Smith.

The young rookie has made an impact for Dallas this season starting in 27 games for the team thus far.

Finney-Smith is currently averaging 4.7 points per games  to go with 2.6 rebounds. While his points per game isn’t considered great for the NBA level, the rookie is making most of his noise on the defensive side of the ball. The Mavericks are optimistic their young phenom will get a chance to play in the game.

Another Mavs player who could have his name called for the Rising Star Challenge is Sophomore Justin Anderson. When former Mav Chandler Parsons went out for Dallas last season, Anderson became the man for the team.

During the 2015-2016 season, Justin Anderson started in nine games for Dallas, including one game in the playoffs. While the young sophomore has seen very little action for the Mavericks this season, his numbers have increased from last year.

Currently Anderson is averaging 6.8 points per game, as opposed to the 3.8 from last season. Justin Anderson can only hope that the NBA calls him up to take part in the NBA All-Star activities.

While no All-Star may make the roster for the Mavs, there are other ways Dallas could make a splash.
