Jerry Jones' Grandson Played Surprise Role in Cowboys Vet's Big Change

A certain Cowboys veteran's jersey number change stems from a conversation with Jerry Jones' grandson.

Few owners in all of professional sports make more headlines than Jerry Jones. The eccentric Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager constantly finds new ways to keep his name in the media, whether it's because of his love for the franchise or his bizarre interactions that often leave fans scratching their heads.

Jones is also known for keeping his family involved with the Cowboys' day-to-day operations. His eldest son, Stephen, is an executive vice president and the director of player personnel, while Jerry Jr. is the chief sales and marketing officer. His only daughter, Charlotte, is also an EVP, as well as the chief brand officer.

While each of Jones' children holds varying power in the organization, it turns out another one of the Cowboys owner's family members might have more influence than some think.

Cowboys News: Jerry Jones' Grandson Influenced DeMarvion Overshown's Jersey Change

Back in April, pass rusher DeMarvion Overshown made Cowboys history when he announced he'll be wearing No. 0 in 2025, becoming the franchise's first player to do so.

Although that was the number he wore during his time with the Texas Longhorns, it turns out Jones' grandson and Charlotte's son, Paxton Anderson, also played a big role in the change. Overshown and Anderson were collegiate teammates in 2022, which is a friendship the third-year defender used to his advantage.

"I gave Paxton a call like, 'Man, can you please put in a word. Just let me know,'" Overshown said about wanting to change from No. 13 to No. 0. "He said, 'You know what? Let me give my mom a call, give me one second.'"

Overshown went on to reveal that he was supposed to have the jersey change finalized in December; however, he and the Cowboys "decided to hold onto the news." The 24-year-old disruptor also made it clear he's happy his persistence regarding the digit swap finally paid off.

"I'm proud of it," Overshown admitted. "I'm glad I earned (the jersey change) the way I did."

Hopefully, Overshown's successful jersey number change is the start of good things to come. The Tyler, TX native's NFL career has been bumpy, to say the least, having missed his 2023 rookie campaign due to a torn ACL. He fought hard to recover to return to the gridiron last season, only for his campaign to be cut short after 13 games due to another significant knee injury.

The good news is that Overshown revealed earlier this week that his rehab "couldn't be any better." He's hoping to return to the Cowboys' lineup in time for the Christmas Day showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs, meaning he can't afford to take his foot off the gas if he wants to accomplish that goal.

The Cowboys certainly wouldn't mind if he picked up from where he left off whenever he does return. Overshown was electric last season, tallying 56 solo tackles, 5.0 sacks, four defended passes, one interception, and a forced fumble, all while earning the sixth-best pass rush grade (78.9) among eligible linebackers on Pro Football Focus.

If changing to No. 0 truly ends up having a positive impact on Overshown's outlook, Cowboys fans might want to start sending thank-you cards to Jones' grandson.
