The Dallas Cowboys' inability to sign WR CeeDee Lamb to an extension has frustrated the fanbase throughout the summer. Now, NFL insider Adam Schefter is calling management out over the situation.

The NFL offseason is nearly over and the Dallas Cowboys have yet to sign superstar wideout CeeDee Lamb to a contract extension. The two sides have been negotiating a deal throughout the summer with the recent updates indicating that the 25-year-old playmaker is looking for a contract that'll pay him north of $33 million annually.

Unsurprisingly, the extended negotiations have frustrated Cowboys fans to no end. Lamb is one of the football's best receivers and if Jerry Jones truly wants to go "all in" after a Super Bowl this season, avoiding in-season distractions by locking down the 2023 receptions leader is a no-brainer.

Not only has the Cowboys' inability to sign Lamb annoyed the fanbase, but the situation is also mind-blowing to one of the NFL's top insiders.

Adam Schefter Blasts Cowboys Over CeeDee Lamb Contract Negotiations

On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter appeared on "Get Up" to discuss the Lamb contract situation and didn't mince his words. He said that it doesn't make sense how the Cowboys haven't signed Lamb despite the two sides only being "about a million dollars a year apart" and that the franchise must do what it can to lock down "one of the most valuable players in football.

"If you're the Cowboys, pump up the last few years [of the contract] and inflate the average salary," Schefter said about Lamb's negotiations. "Get the guy in camp and get it down."

Even though an eventual deal is likely, Schefter added that he's surprised that the Cowboys didn't sign Lamb "weeks ago" because of how it could affect his start to the campaign.

"Assuming [a deal] does get done, because they're only roughly $1 million apart, you got to worry about [Lamb] getting back in and getting back up to conditioning level... Like, what are we doing? "

It's hard to imagine why the Cowboys — the NFL's most valuable franchise — haven't signed Lamb yet. Wide receivers are making more money with each passing season so any contract that they signed the ex-Oklahoma WR to now will look like a steal in another two or three years.

Besides, there's always the possibility that we've yet to see the best from Lamb. The former 2020 first-rounders statistical output has improved with each passing season, culminating in a league-leading 135 catches for 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023, resulting in his finishing third in the Offensive Player of the Year voting.

Hopefully, the Cowboys and Lamb heed Schefter's advice and finalize a deal soon. The last thing Dallas needs is for the negotiation process to become an in-season distraction, especially when Jerry Jones & Co. are still trying to sign franchise signal-caller Dak Prescott and defensive difference-maker Micah Parsons to new contracts, too.

If the Cowboys want to end their Super Bowl drought, they'll need a happy (and motivated) Lamb to accomplish that goal. For now, America's Team heads into the 2024 NFL season tied for the ninth-best odds (+1800) to hoist the Lombardi Trophy on FanDuel Sportsbook.
