The NFL offseason is flying by, leaving less than two weeks before the 2025 draft begins. Dallas Cowboys fans are eager to see Jerry Jones & Co.'s draft performance at Lambeau Field, especially with America's Team desperately needing a youth injection following last season's seven-win performance.
Although the arrival of promising prospects is exciting for the fanbase, it isn't good news for everyone. Several Cowboys veterans haven't exactly done much to help the team recently, meaning it wouldn't be a shock if Jones kicked an underperforming vet to the curb to make room for an incoming rookie.
Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn as Good as Gone Before 2025 NFL Draft
If the Cowboys send another player packing in the next few weeks, there's a decent chance it could be running back Deuce Vaughn who gets the boot.
Vaughn, 23, is a former Kansas State product drafted 212th overall by Dallas in 2023. Even though his frame (five-foot-six, 176 lbs) often leaves him dwarfed compared to most of his colleagues, the Fayetteville, AR's heart and determination quickly saw him become a Cowboys fan favorite during his rookie training camp, ultimately leading to a 53-man roster spot in Year 1.
Unfortunately, the offseason hype didn't deliver on-field results. Vaughn barely made an impact as a rookie, turning 23 carries into 40 rushing yards while converting seven receptions into another 40 yards across seven appearances. Optimistic fans hoped he'd build off that performance in Year 2, however, 88 scrimmage yards on 20 touches without a touchdown left them disappointed again.
Fast forward to the current offseason when Vaughn's Cowboys future is unclear. While the third-year RB still has two years remaining on his rookie contract, the Cowboys no longer need him as much after signing veteran runners Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams in free agency. Even if Dallas isn't fully in love with its backfield, a more promising RB than Vaughn can likely be found in the draft.
Assuming he survives the draft, Vaughn will be under a ton of pressure to step up in training camp. It might not be long before the diminutive RB is looking for an opportunity elsewhere if he fails to prove that he can be a consistent contributor to head coach Brian Schottenheimer's staff
